Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Best Restaurant in Grants Pass. I had eaten here when it was at its earlier location on Redwood Hwy. My parents liked the tacos, so we would stop in occasionally to grab a few before or after rafting the river. Always good. One day my mom ordered the tortilla soup, and that is what hooked me on this place. What really won me over is one day when I had a craving for the tortilla soup and I stopped into the store to get some. They had sold out, and the owner ( Jose?) apologized profusely, said they ran out earlier than usual, but gave me a menu with the phone number on it, and said that if I called in the morning when they offered the soup, he would make sure to have it for me if I came in later in the afternoon. They have gotten a lot bigger since this happened, so I dont know if they still do this but the fact that he was so willing to do this for me, someone who wasn't a very regular client was very impressive. They moved to a more visible and larger location on Redwood Avenue, and I never really got a chance to stop in as I moved from Grants Pass to Eugene, Oregon. My parents still eat here frequently, and on a visit my mom told me I had to try the torta. I wasn't thrilled about it, I don't go to a Mexican place to have a sandwich. We decided to split a couple entrees just in case I didnt like the torta. I got sopapillas, she got a torta. The sopapillas were decent, but the torta was amazing. The bread was delicious, the meat was good, it was huge and the price was good. A visit to Grants Pass isn't complete until without a stop at Casa Amiga. I have gotten several people to try the tortas, and everyone has loved them. Definitely a must try! I would have given this place a 4 star, because I don't typically give 5 stars or perfect ratings, but this place more than earned the extra star because they are extremely consistent, it is a family business and it shows. The staff is amazing, they are great to their customers, and the are delicious and priced well. It does get very busy, but it is worth the wait!

I decided to try this place based on everyone's positive review. I had taco, husband had tamale and in law ordered combo with enchilada and tamale. Surprisingly, none of us liked our food. The meat in my taco was too salty and very dry. We will not come back to this place. Price is cheap though. No place for tipping on credit card receipt.

Okay, after at least 4 or 5 visits in the last month and a half, this place deserves the bump upward to a full 5 stars..........the Chicken burritos are massive, loaded with flavor, yet not greasy. The Salsa Verde is good, and the Mole is great, spicy, sweet, complex......clearly it's made from many ingredients, with plenty of care.....not much travels home as takeout as well as a burrito, and theirs are excellent. It's a really convenient location, when I'm heading home from town it's an easy spot to stop by, and the kitchen has them ready quickly.......I don't know whether or not it's family run, but it has a family run feeling about it. It's clear that the staff cares about the food they craft.

While I have not had the opportunity to visit this amazing establishment in person, they were selected by the company I work for to come & cater during an employee appreciation event - and I must say, I absolutely love their food! It's flavorful, delicious and in addition to that their service and attitude while taking care of the customers is top notch! If you're looking for authentic and delicious Mexican cuisine, I would recommend you look no further. Make Casa Amiga your next restaurant destination!

Casa is excellent in quality quanity and ambience. I highly recommend them. Scott mowdy Smokehouse bbq

We LOVE Casa Amiga!! Delicious food! We have done the catering platters for our company dinner and it was so much good food! We like coming here for lunches also, and the environment is pretty cool. Great, great food.

Moved away from Grants Pass, and this restaurant is one of the only things that are missed. Janky looking place with plastic tables and folding chairs, but the food is amazing! Super cheap and incredibly good. Their bbq is fantastic also, which I think they only do on the weekends. It's almost always jam packed, and theirs a reason for it. Delicious huge portions! Go hungry!

Casa Amiga is our favorite Mexican restaurant (and they add BBQ on Fridays--call to reserve it). My friends and I (the Three Amigos) have been eating at Casa Amiga for several years, and we LOVE IT. We have never received bad food or service. Jose moves around the room and chats with his customers and sometimes pulls a prank (usually when he gets to know you) that diners enjoy. Our computer club (1,200 members) has them cater the annual picnic, and we all LOVE IT. I see that Koolaid.H wrote a negative review that I can safely call a complete fraud. Who is Koolaid working for? Koolaid must be assigning a low rating to undermine these good people. Trust me, you won't be disappointed if you eat at Casa Amiga.

Best bbq in Grants Pass. Probably best Bbq in all of southern Oregon. Bbq is only Friday's and you need to make reservations for your selected meat early in the day because they run out. We get the meat take out too.

I went back again and took family visiting from Pennsylvania with 3 kids. The kids loved the festive atmosphere with pinatas hanging all over the ceiling. The food was generous and superb. I really can't understand what people are complaining about. Maybe people are so used to eating Americanized Mexican food that they don't know what real Mexican food and seasonings taste like? I had the tongue tacos, the kids got nachos, the burritos were enormous and delicious. Everybody was very happy with their food. The salsas on the table were delicious and of varying degrees of hotness. The chips were not greasy and just a little bit of salt...very fresh. The beans were awesome. All I can say is, if you like Taco Bell, you probably won't like this place because this is the "real deal". Service was great, prices are very reasonable. What's not to love?
(5)Stephen L.
Ok grants pass what are you smoking? Worst food I have ever had, Chef Mike (microwave) needs to be fired. No flavor to speak of rice was weird and the beans smelt like a porta potty. Oh and don't forget trying to sub parmesan cheese for queso fresco.
(1)Steve M.
OK, so, this is hard for me. I really dont want to share but i've a couple beers here at Casa Amiga and alcohol tends to soften me a bit. Anyways, if you want BBQ on Friday night, look no further. Casa Amiga is the best bang for your buck for BBQ in all of Oregon. (As far as I'm concerned anyway)
(5)Carolina A.
This is the most authentic Mexican you can find in Grants Pass... They have a little bit of everything and really good tacos. I highly recommend the tongue ones and make sure you ask them well done! The Al pastor are also really good!! I love the fact that they serve drinks in mason jars and salsas in beer bottles!!! They also have Taco Tuesdays - all tacos for $2!!! I am willing to come back on the weekends to check what they've got!! Great place!!
(4)Chris C.
This feels strange to say about a Mexican restaurant, but the food was SO bland. I got the Chile Verde. It's was a pile of flavorless green mush. I couldn't eat more than a couple bites. My sister got chicken enchiladas. They had thick slices of chicken in them rather than shredded chicken. It was very dry and seemed possibly left over from the previous night's BBQ. Not so good. If you're from California like me, and you love Mexican food, this place will not do it for you. It's also a restaurant/store which is odd and the ambiance feels a bit like a cafeteria. However, we had excellent service and the staff was very friendly. The Instant Combustion sauce....i didn't even break a sweat.
(2)Holly H.
Worst Mexican food I've ever had. Chips no salt....meats too salty....rice weird tasting... It all tasted weird.
(1)Amber S.
The tamales are amazing loved the tacos everyone at our table was more than happy with the meal! Service is great always getting refills and asking if we needed anything Will definitely be going again
(4)Cassie E.
This place is the best. Best carne asada in town. Super friendly service. Quick and reasonably priced.
(5)Paul B.
I have lived here 10 years. This is the best Mexican food in Grants Pass and stands up to some of the best I have ever had. They bring you chips with a great bean dip and also offer 3 different salsas with your meal. All 3 salsas stand on their own. Everything I have ordered has been good but I find myself going back for their burritos with whole beans. They do a banging mesquite bbq on Fridays. It's also a family owner operated business and they do care and it shows. 3 bathrooms and the one I used was clean.
(5)David W.
Truly amazing and authentic Mexican food in southern Oregon. Their nachos are freaking huge and pure perfection, and the tacos are just as good. And everything is super fresh and the atmosphere is great fun and the owners are a really nice family. So simply put if your hungry and want the best Mexican food anywhere go to Casa Amiga.
(5)Ethan R.
This place was amazing. The ribs were to die for, The potato salad hit the spot, and the "toco la lengua" the tongue toco. So good, put a little lime on it, mmmmm yum. The service is nice, the people are very friendly. Even the cups were cool, little mason jars. I recommend it, for yourself or with a group.
(5)Josh A.
I've only had the carne asada burrito, cheese enchiladas, and nachos. All of them were delicious and you got a lot of food for the price. They are fast too. I've ordered carry-out while they were busy and got my food in less than 10 minutes.
(5)Karen C.
Amazing Food!!! Super Fast with Take Out! But horrible with dine in service :( Waited over 10 minutes and no one attempted to greet us. Yes they were busy, but really they aren't going to attempt to greet customers. We ended up walking out before anyone ever talked to us. I will continue to eat there, I just know only for take out.

Do I have a story to tell you. Myself, my wife and her family used to come here all the time until recently. When I got engaged, the entire family thought it would be great to come here and celebrate. We ended up being served incredibly horrible food. The tamales were clearly half frozen and terrible, the beans were beaming with white coloring from all the lard they had used and the most the rudest service I have ever had. The waitress was clearly a family member taking our order. As a fluent native Spanish Speaker, I ordered in Spanish so it would be easier on her. She came back with wrong orders on almost all our plates. I let her even know nicely in Spanish that this is not what we had ordered, She then had the audacity to argue with me and tell me, "Look here, I know what you ordered and this is what you ordered young man." Then the owner showed up to see how everything was, I informed him that we were surprisingly disappointed in the food and service. His exact words were and I KID YOU NOT..."Oh well Buddy, that's how we roll." Never again will we come here. I urge all of you to not let establishments get away with treating their customers this way.

I tried this place based on some friends recommendations. My brother in law is from Mexico and makes me torda (sp?) sandwiches. I was excited to try it here. I was very disappointed. The actual sandwich came out with a soggy bottom half - the bread. I really should have sent it back. I was told the meat is super tender and flavorful. I found just the opposite to be true. It was extremely bland. I even tried lots of the different salsa's that they had. It didn't help. This is all I tried here so maybe something else is better. But to have soggy bread is really bad. I just don't have the desire to try it again.
(2)Lori T.
Very so-so..Coming from San Diego, this was not authentic Mexican and a poor imitation. Salsa Verde was bland. The mole salsa was too strong. My Tortilla soup, although presented beautifully, was bland. My husband's carne asada burrito was huge! But mostly rice and beans. The décor is cheap and reminds me of a Tijuana market. It claims to be a market, also, but they don't even make or sell their own tortillas! They buy them!
(2)Linda G.
I rate my Mexican restaurants by their refried beans and compare them to my mother's. These were so-so, as was the food.
(2)Fred J.
TACO TUESDAY IS GREAT! $2 TACOS with a variety of meats and fish. Live not so loud you can not have a conversation music.
(5)Michael B.
2nd time 2 days ago. The best authentic Mexican food I've had since my last visit to Mexico ! The place is not where you would expect to find a restaurant, a little hard to find but well worth it ! Haven't tried everything yet but so far everything we've had was awesome...

Only true authentic Mexican food in Grants Pass, Oregon. Being born and raised in the Los Angeles area I can honestly say that I have been spoiled by having access to some amazing Mexican food. Upon moving to Southern Oregon I was immediately on my quest for good Mexican food. Holding high standards for the authentic side of things many fell short of proving themselves until I was introduced to Casa Amiga. Hands down the best overall.
(5)Karen M.
Casa Amiga, Way Too Salty. We and our friends have eaten there twice. The meats are way too salty. We expressed this to the manager and hope they will take this into account. Hey, the salt shaker is on the table for those who want to salt their food. Because of this we have quit going there, and it's too bad it's a nice family run business.
(2)Robert P.
Casa Amiga...I love your ribs! At $16 for a rack, I'm not sure their prices can be beat. They also make their own barbecue sauce that is sweet and tasty. This is a very popular place on Friday evenings. If you want some tasty smoked ribs at a good price reserve yours early Friday because they usually sell out by around 6 pm. Just so you understand, Friday is the only day of the week they sell smoked ribs. I'm not a big fan of the salsa's they bring out and the chips are thick and dense...I like cantina style chips that are light and crispy. I've had a torta here and it was good, but other than that I can't comment on any of the other food. I only get the ribs. lol Wait a minute, I just realized today is Friday! I'm going to go get myself some ribs!

My family and I have been here many many times! It's delicious, Maria and Jose are amazing and so kind! Love seeing there smily faces!
(5)Enzo A.
These tacos are terrific. Great quality of meat and a lot of attention paid to the preparation of said meat. Service is great. Margaritas are large.
(4)Spencer G.
The best Mexican food in southern Oregon! Staff is amazing, large portions and extremely reasonable prices combined with a quirky atmosphere makes for a great meal any time! Don't miss the BBQ on Fridays, call ahead a place a meat order because they sell out quick! Nothing is deep fried and everything is as authentic as you can find anywhere around. Family owned, great food, local and an a meal you will not regret.

Kinda hard to reach, this place, hiding behind the furniture store. They could use a sign from Redwood Avenue. But then they seem to have plenty of business aready. The enchildas were adequate, the rice and beans reasonable and in good-sized portions. The tamale was a bit disappointing - it was nice and big, and had a lot of meat, but hardly tasted like a tamale. Maybe it was cooked too long, and it could have used more masa, though having a lot of meat would seem like a bonus to a lot of folks, and even to me sometimes. The tostada was huge for the price, and tasty. They brought water in a large Ball Jar - it was a hot day and much appreciated. It'll be worth while eating there again. There's more I want to try...

Best tacos al pastor in town!!
(4)David B.
It pays to have good friends in the area. We were introduced to this place last night. Absolutely wonderful, authentic mexican and american BBQ. The BBQ is only on Fridays. The regular mexican menu is all week long. This would be 5 stars if it was a little nicer surroundings, but it is in a strip center, and typical of many mexican dining experiences. But the food is awesome. Our friends talked to the owner about giving us one of everything so we could really sample the food. So I will rate the entrees one by one. Tamales - good, have had better. but nice and fresh Carne Asada Taco - awesome. These folks know how to make really wonderful tacos, and serve them with fresh lime, and great salsa on the side. Carne Asada Burrito - this is usually my favorite dish at many mexican places. Here it is huge, and delicious. Definitely a meal. 3 meat Quesadilla - oh this is just the best I have ever had. So yummy and flavorful. Mexican sandwich - now this has another name on their menu, but since it is the only sandwich offered, you will know what I am rating. It was also superb, on a grilled cuban style bread, with avocado and cilantro and several meats. Another meal in itself. Enchilada - chicken - it was good. Again, not memorable, but almost everything else was. On your first trip, I would definitely recommend splitting a few things with friends so you can try several of there wonderful dishes. They don't advertise. They don't have a listing in the phone book, and your GPS won't even have them but they are at 1720 Redwood Avenue, Grants Pass. They are only open until 8 pm, so no late dining. Open for lunch and dinner. I did see lots of people coming in to get takeout. This one is a keeper, for sure.
(4)Kayrin P.
Wonderful food and service. I go there everytime I visit the family in GP.
(5)Garrett B.
The best Mexican food in Grants Pass! Everything I've had there has been delicious and Jose, the owner, is a character. Always fun to see/talk to him. Great place!
(5)Cathi H.
David B. is right, you have to have friends or family that know where this place is but it is certainly worth searching out if you are hungry for authentic Mexican and/or BBQ. The problem is that if you are not a local, you have no idea how to get to it! You can SEE if from Redwood Highway but have to drive ON Redwood AVENUE and then look for a sign for a furniture store (turn there) and it is around the corner from there! My sister told me that we had to make reservations if we were going on a Friday night (really??? In Grants Pass?) and especially if we wanted BBQ (which we did). We arrived for our 5pm reservation for a party of 7 and they did have our table ready. It appeared that if you didn't have a reservation, you may not have gotten a table, they were that busy already. The place has a great selection of pinatas hanging from the ceiling that my niece and nephew found entertaining and they has Mexican spices available for sale in their corner store. While everything we had to eat was excellent, the service could have been better. We asked for water for the table twice but never got any.. and they totally forgot my 75 year old father's dinner completely. It appears to be a family run place and Mom runs the front counter cash register and take-out counter (at times 20 people deep) but should keep a better eye on the restaurant portion too. We ordered BBQ ribs and chicken and they were very, very good. The portions are HUGE so we ended up taking a lot of the BBQ home because we also sampled the Mexican food also. The burrito was HUGE and filled with great meat, beans and rice and even split between my niece and nephew was too much for them. My sister and I split the 3-item plate which had a tostada, enchilada and taco --- all were very tasty and no leftovers there. Dad did eventually get his tamale and he said it was also tasty, although he seemed to be more focused on the ribs that were close to his end of the table! This place is very clean, restrooms were spotless, and you get a LOT of good food for your money. You also get lots of leftovers thanks to their generous portions --- which made my nephew very happy late that Friday night when he went looking for a snack! SOME ADVICE: If you DO want BBQ, be sure to call them 1-2 day ahead of time and place your order. When we left at 6pm, they had already run out of BBQ and our server said we could probably sell our leftover ribs to the highest bidder --- we decided against it for fear of a riot right there in Grants Pass! :)

Two words. Tongue tacos. I'm always looking for something interesting to eat, this place has great Mexican food and fantastic BBQ (Fridays only, get there early or it might be gone). I've been there several times and each time I have great food at a great price. If you're in the area and hankering for some Mexican food, give it a try.
